We just wanted to thank everyone who has already registered and/or donated. We have been blown away by how many enthusiastic people have made donations while registering and have even offered to donate their time to help us out.

It is imperative that people continue to register on the website in order to have an accurate number of people participating this year. Therefore we need your help! We need volunteers to help promote this years Brisbane Zombie Walk and encourage people to register and make a donations. We are also looking for volunteers who can assist us on the day of the walk as we will be needing help with crowd control, ushering, stalls, clean up and overall organisation of the actual walk

We also need assistance with fundraising events such as the Rott n Roll fundraiser gig. If you have any experience in running events and would be interested in volunteering, we would LOVE all the help we can get. This includes the need for local bands willing to donate their time to play for free at the gig (which will be held in late September), the after-party etc.

If you're interested in helping us out in any of the ways mentioned above, please email us at zombie@brisbanezombiewalk.com to discuss!

Hi everyone,

We've been getting a lot of people asking if there will be a Zombie Walk this year and if so, when. We just wanted to let you know that yes, there will be and it will take place in October around the time of World Zombie Day. We can't confirm any more details than this as we still have a tonne of work to do, particularly in regards to fund-raising since this year we will definitely be liable or covering the costs of the police presence and various other expenses that we simply cannot cover on our own. The walk will still be raising money for the Brain Foundation of Australia and will be run in a similar way as it has for the past two years.

We are in the process of redeveloping the website with a new look and new features such a registration page so we can be more prepared for numbers of attendees as well as encouraging people to make charitable donations towards the costs of the walk and to help support the Brain Foundation.

Please keep checking the website in the coming weeks for all of these changes and to keep up with the latest news.

Thanks,

The Brisbane Zombie Walk team.

POST WALK STATEMENT FOR 2009

First of all we would like to say a big thank you to all who participated in Brisbane Zombie Walk for 2009 - it was a huge success! So much so we have just received reports from the police that there were an approximate 5000 participants this years walk! Compared to last years walk which had about 1500 participants, this was the most relaxed and easily the most enjoyable walk by far. We have received nothing but positive feedback from everyone and are pleased to say we have not received any complaints or reports of any major incidents that could compromise the future of the Brisbane Zombie Walk. It seemed as though the vast majority of people were on their best behaviour and for that we must thank you. Aside from one of the organisers copping a face full of blood when asking some kids to stay behind the lead officials, people were very considerate and respected one another's personal space as well as the personal space of non-participants. It was a pleasure to witness.

As this years walk was so much bigger than any previous walks, it goes without saying we needed all the support we could get from the police and that we did - they were able to close off roads and redirect traffic and get the thousands of zombie moving in the right direction in a safe and orderly manner. No one expected quite so many participants so there had been no plans to close off any streets - the fact they were able to do so, and so efficiently is amazing and we cannot thank them enough. We'd also like to thank the veteran zombie walkers too - we witnessed many seasoned walkers helping out by explaining how it all works to the younger and uninitiated participants. We also had many people help out with crowd control which helped us out a great deal.

And lastly we would like to thank all of those who donated money to the Brain Foundation. We were humbled by how generous people were on the day, both during the walk and at the after party. While we did raise a large sum of money, it was well below the target amount so are encouraging people to please donate a minimum of $2, particularly if they were unable to do so on the day. Please see the donate link below. For more information on the Brain Foundation please visit their website: http://www.brainaustralia.org.au.

We would like to apologise to all zombie walk participants who may have had trouble getting to the after-party at Birdee's. It is our understanding that a number of people were turned away unnecessarily due to a lack of communication with their security staff which was rectified as soon as we were made aware of it. We hope that the people who made it to the after party had a great afternoon/evening.

A final thank you to the businesses who helped us along the way with their support and donations: GPM, Domino's New Farm, Birdee Num Num's, inthemix.com and Nightlife Music + Video.

Cara, Anthony & Lara.

IT'S Z-DAY PEOPLE! We hope you're all ready and have your makeup and costumes prepared for what is going to be an awesome day! It's also Thrill the World today so some zombies will be getting ready to dance in the City to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" at 10:30am before joining us on the walk at 3pm - excellent work guys!

Just some quick reminders! The walk starts at 3pm SHARP so please be at WICKHAM PARK well before 3pm so that you have time to mingle, take photos, hear the announcements (which will happen about 2:50pm) and so you don't miss the start of the walk itself. We have to get to the end point as close to 4:15pm as we possibly can for the big ending (it's going to be so much fun so please bare with us). The after party is at Birdee Num Num's which is on the corner of Gipps and Ann St's and is a licensed venue so you must be 18+ (sorry to all those under 18, but there is some all ages fun as part of the big SECRET surprise, we promise) so please have photo ID. Entry is a gold coin donation which will go to the Brain Foundation. Food will be served and is also just a gold coin donation.

During the walk you will see ZOMBIE WALK OFFICIALS walking around - they're identified by white signs on their backs. If you have any questions, concerns or need some help please ask them. Likewise, if they ask you to do something (ie. get off the road, stop splashing blood on the paths etc) please listen to them. We are not trying to be mean, we just want to make sure everyone has a great day. We're going to have a police escort so if you're intent on causing trouble there's every chance you will be fined and/or prosecuted for your actions. Just so you know!

Well that's all for now. The zombie walk crew will be at the meeting point from about 1pm so if you want to say hello, please do! This also means we can't answer any of your questions from about 12pm so if you have any, make sure to get in quick!

So the countdown to this years walk has well and truly begun - it's this Sunday everyone!

If you're anything like me, you've probably not even thought about your makeup yet which means you're probably going to be rushing to the shops this Thursday night or Saturday afternoon trying to find something decent. To help you out, I have a few suggestions that will make your life a bit easier and your makeup a little more realistic:

+ Don't go overboard with the white face paint. Zombies are dead bodies so they're going to be pale in most cases, but why do they have to have a super white face like a clown??? It looks tacky and isn't at all zombie-like. To get pale, get a white face/body paint (I use one called Global Colours Bodyart) and water it down and apply it with a makeup sponge. It will make you pale without looking ridiculous and it goes on a lot nicer this way. You can then add other colours like gray or green for extra effect.
+ Make your own blood! Honestly, a lot of the fake bloods you buy aren't very realistic and then stain EVERYTHING. This chocolate blood recipe is amazing and is also edible (it taste like chocolate pudding). It can be thickened with some corn flour on the stove or left runny to flick or pour on like real blood. It also washes out of clothing and as of yet it's never stained any of my clothing (including whites). This stuff goes off after a few days though so don't expect to make it too far in advance or to keep it for the next zombie walk.

If you need to buy makeup, please go check out Craft Ideas in Indooroopilly Shopping Center or Cracker Jack on High Street, Toowong. They're kindly giving 10% discounts on all makeup products for those going on the zombie walk - they even have liquid latex for extra awesome gore! Just say you're going on the Brisbane Zombie Walk to get the discount.

***IMPORTANT UPDATE***

The starting point of this years Zombie Walk is now at Wickham Park. It will NOT be at Roma Street Parklands!!! Wickham Park is quite close by to last years starting point (Spring Hill Corner) and is located between WICKHAM TERRACE and ALBERT STREET. Please do NOT gather in the Roma St Parklands this year as they have been unable to accommodate us this year. Please make sure you tell anyone you know who is also participating in this years walk to meet at Wickham Park.

New version of the poster - our Promo page will be updated soon.

If you have any questions about this please email zombie@brisbanezombiewalk.com otherwise we will see you there!

To raise funds for this years Zombie Walk and the Brain Foundation we are hosting a fundraiser gig at Jubilee Hotel on Saturday 3rd October from 8pm. There will be hardcore, punk and psychobilly bands playing all night, including Mouthguard, Stars Collide With, The Pugs and The Cassingles. There's also going to a live burlesque performance by the Judy Dolls!

It's $15 entry (though we may be inclined to let you in for cheap if you impress us with your best zombie or horror costumes). ALL funds raised will go towards the Brain Foundation and this years Zombie Walk so please come along and support a worthwhile cause while seeing some local bands and having a few drinks with the Zombie Walk organisers!

Just a quick note to confirm the date of this years zombie walk. It will be SUNDAY 25TH OCTOBER and will start at Roma Street Parklands at 3pm. At this stage, the route will be the same as it was last year. We will stop at the same park as we did last year (Centenary Place, which is just before Cathedral Place on the edge of the Valley) before moving on to the Valley Fiesta where we the after-walk fun will start!

We are also in the process of organising a zombie-themed party for SATURDAY 3RD OCTOBER at the Jubilee Hotel. All funds will go towards The Brain Foundation and covering the cost of this years Zombie Walk. We'll post more details on this very soon.

Zombie Walk Fundraiser Party - Ideas?

We are in the process of organising a party to raise money for this years zombie walk and our chosen charity - The Brain Foundation. While we have a few ideas all ready, we would love some feedback about what people think would make a good zombie-themed fundraiser party. What venue/s would you like to go to, what types of music would you like to hear, prize ideas for best costumes, entry price etc. All suggestions are welcome and will be taken on board.

We are hoping to have the first party in early August so start thinking of ideas that will make this party awesome! Meanwhile, don't forget you can donate via Paypal - all money goes towards the walk and The Brain Foundation. See the "Donate" button on the right!

OK so we have to thank everyone for their paitence because it has been a while since there's been a proper update on the future of the Zombie Walk. As I have said from the beginning, the walk will be taking place this year, no matter what the obstacles. It's too fun an event to give up on and we are not quitters!

It is with much excitement that we can finally announce the details of this years Brisbane Zombie Walk! But first! You will all be pleased to hear that this years walk is now going to be a charity walk! For thoe not in the know, this means we, as the organisers, are not liable for the costs of police presence! So all money we raise (and have raised already ) will be going towards out charity of choice : THE BRAIN FOUNDATION! So please keep up the donations because they are going to a very good, and hilariously apt, cause!

We're also pretty darn stoked to reveal this years walk is going to be incorporated into 2009's Valley Fiesta! We have been liasing with the committe behind the event and there will be an undead theme and zombie-themed entertainment on the Sunday of the walk! At this stage we are still yet to confirm the actual date of the walk as Brisbane City Council and the Valley Fiesta are still in talks as to when the China Town Mall will be completed so that it will be safe enough for the event to take place. It's anticipated that the walk will take place in late-October.

Lots of details to come, so please be patient! If you wish to donate to the cause, please find the Donate button on the right. Thank you all so much for your patience and support!

If you want the walk to go ahead this year, we're going to need donations so we can meet the amount needed to pay for the police presence. If you're keen to keep up this awesome tradition then please donate whatever you can spare through the Paypal button below:

Please note all proceeds will go towards the cost of the walk. If we get more than what it will cost for the police, the extra money will help pay for the best after-party ever. And if we're lucky enough to cover all of this and still have money left over, we will donate it all to charity (we'll let you know which charity that will be closer to the date).

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

The first fundraiser for this years Brisbane Zombie Walk is taking place on Saturday 18th April at Elysium Internet & Gaming Lounge. Starting at 6pm and winding up at 12 midnight, the night will be zombie-themed with games like "Left 4 Dead" on offer. Dressing up is encouraged and there'll be prizes for the best dressed zombie of the night. There will even be DJs to provide entertainment for any non-gamers who just want to come along to support the cause!

The cost is just $15, and you can grab a ticket from the venue itself (281 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley - just above the 7-11 at the bottom of the mall) or you can email me to pre-order your ticket (zombie@brisbanezombiewalk.com). There's limited capacity for gamers so make sure to get in quickly!

Starting at 6pm and winding up at 12 midnight, the night will be zombie-themed with games like “Left 4 Dead” on offer. Dressing up is encouraged and there’ll be prizes for the best dressed zombie of the night. There will even be DJs to provide entertainment for any non-gamers who just want to come along to support the cause!

The cost is just $15, and you can grab a ticket from the venue itself (281 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley—just above the 7-11 at the bottom of the mall) or you can email me to pre-order your ticket (zombie@brisbanezombiewalk.com). There’s limited capacity for gamers so make sure to get in quickly!

Thanks to everyone for their input, suggestions and well wishes! We do intend to ensure the walk takes place this year and for years to come, so we will be organising some events around Brisbane to raise money for the walk. Nothing we can mention yet but we will announce them as soon as we can. We have decided the walk will remain as an event as we're not willing to try and trick the police into thinking this is a protest or charity event, which may end up making it harder to continute having the walk in the future.

Our hope is to have the walk ASAP, at the very latest coinciding with World Zombie Day in October. We will announce any developments here as well as all the events we will be poutting on to help ensure the zombie walk happens this year. In the meantime keep the suggestions coming!

In case anyone has been wondering why there have been no updates since we mentioned the tentative date for this years zombie walk...I'm afraid we have some bad news. While arranging the date for the walk with the police we found out the zombie walk no longer falls under the legislation for a "peacefull assembly/procession" and is now classed as a "special event" which means we are liable for the cost of the police presence we are required to have. Unfortunately this means we would be up for a few thousand dollars for the police alone.

Obviously this is a huge expense for what is a fun, free event and more than we can afford by a long shot. But while this is extremely bad news it should be noted we are not the types of people to give up so easily and so we are looking at ways to raise the funds to cover the costs of this years zombie walk. This does mean we have to push the date of the walk back, possibly to October so we can coincide with World Zombie Day (not confirmed yet).

This is where you can help! We would love suggestions and support from all those determined to see the Brisbane Zombie Walk continue. If you have any suggestions or feedback, or would like to join us in organising both the walk and the fundraising events needed to get the walk happening, please email us on:

Well it's finally 2009, which means the next Brisbane Zombie Walk is on its way! We are in the process of organising everything but since we've had a few emails lately about the date of the next walk, we just wanted to let you all know that we are expecting it to happen on the last Sunday of April (which would be the 26th). Now, this is not set in stone and we wouldn't be surprised if the date had to change. If this happenes, we will make sure it's as close to April 26th as possible and will let you all know ASAP.

Please keep checking the site for furthe updates which will be coming thick and fast as we start to get everything arranged!

In case you haven't already heard, Brisbane is the first Australian city to take party in Thrill the World this year. In a nutshell, people all over the world will dance the Thriller dance (you know, the Michael Jackson song with the amazing zombie dance) simultaneously on the 26th October 2008.

If you're keen to take part, check out the Thrill the World - Brisbane page where you can find out more info.

Don't worry if you don't know the dance, it's simple to do with lots of tutorials on Youtube, plus there are weekly practice sessions at the Brisbane Powerhouse (the next one is this Sunday at 3pm). See the Myspace for further info.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this years Brisbane Zombie Walk! It has been estimated there were 1500 people taking part in the walk (including zombies, survivors, photographers etc). The walk was a huge success, as was the after-party at Planet Nightclub.

However, there were a few incidents that need to be high-lighted so that we can learn and hope not to repeat on future walks.

Firstly, there was an incident at the finishing point where a certain zombie launched himself into an unsuspecting crowd of zombies play-acting for the photographers. Because no one expected this, no one was prepared to catch him and one person was badly injured (this person later turned out to be a friend of the people behind the organisation of the walk, as a matter of fact).

While there was no permanent damage sustained, she was taken away in an ambulance amid fears her neck was broken. This is very, very serious. The person responsible regretted his actions immediately and made sure to stay with the injured girl until she was taken to the hospital. It was a lapse of good judgement and had severe consequences. I hope that not only he, but everyone at the walk has learnt a valuable lesson from this incident.

Other incidents while less serious in nature need to be observed as they could have potentially compromised the future of the Brisbane Zombie Walk.

There were many incidents reported from many different people of zombies harassing people not involved in the walk, many of whom wanted no involvement. It was great to see passers-by getting involved with the walk, but there were a great deal who wanted nothing to do with it and therefore should have been left alone.

There were incidents where zombies entered shops when passing by the Queen Street Mall and harassed staff, participants caught graffitting walls and other public property, smearing (and even spitting) blood on shop windows and other public property, people smearing fake blood onto other zombies against their wishes and more disturbingly - on people not involved in the walk.

It goes without saying that the walk needed people to use their common sense in order to make the day enjoyable for everyone, and it's sad to see that there were a few people who seemed intent on causing as much trouble and using as little common sense as possible. This is not on in any way, shape or form and could have meant the end of future zombie walks.

Something else that should be noted is that there was not a police escort as there was supposed to be. As a result, I believe many of these incidents could have been avoided if we had the police guiding the walk along its route. We are currently awaiting a response as to why they were not present. Regardless, it was not an excuse for people to act up the way they did.

On top of this it was up to myself, the primary organiser of the walk, and my friends and family to try and manage everyone - something very difficult to do since a lot of people did not think we had the authority to give directions or orders and simply chose to defy us.

Whiile I think we did a great job, especially considering there were only a few us looking after the entire event, it also meant we missed many of the aforementioned incidents, particularly the one with the injured girl - only finding out about the incident later at the after-party. If you know of any further incidents that we missed, please let us know so we can have them on record.

As for the after-party - it was a great success and there have been no major complaints thus far. Please note we were unable to organise bands for this years after-party due to time and money limitations, but we believe the DJs did a very good job nonetheless.

We want to thank Planet Nightclub for not only allowing hundreds of blood-stained, makeup-covered zombies to take over the venue, but also for allowing it to be all-ages and dropping the usual $5 entry.

Regards,

Cara Westworth and your friendly zombie walk team.

The Brisbane Zombie Walk is coming very soon! The organisation of the walk has changed hands very recently so it was impossible for the walk to occur on the first Sunday of April, as the first two walks did. We are pleased to announce the walk will take place on Sunday 25th May at 3pm!

This year thee walk will take a slightly different route as it has previously, due to the fact an after-party has been organised. The walk will start in the Roma St Parklands as it has previously (although now at the Spring Hill corner as opposed to the amphitheater), but this year will finish in Fortitude Valley where the after-party will take place.

Make sure to look through the site for all the details, zombie-tips, links, photos and maps. If you have any questions please feel free to email zombie@brisbanezombiewalk.com.
